10 years after the financial crisis: what has changed?

It has been ten years now since the start of the financial crisis. Over the past few years, the sector has introducted numerous changes to prevent a similar crisis. But what kind of changes? To answer this question, Febelfin has developed a clear fact sheet.

In short

Exactly ten years ago, the banking sector was confronted with a financial crisis. In the meanwhile, a series of measures has been introduced, for example:

  • stricter rules making banks stronger, safer and more liquid
  • closer supervision on governance and management of banks
  • settlement procedures for banks that run into difficulties

At the same time, attention has been paid to consumer interests. For all the above reasons, the banking system is much stronger and more resilient to a similar crisis.

In view of this, Febelfin has drawn up a fact sheet explaining the main changes since the financial crisis.
